I took the photograph above in Saville Gardens near Windsor and to be honest it is not really relevant to the intent of this website apart from the fact that walking in beautiful gardens on a crisp autumn morning is a reminder that the short days, the damp and rain that epitomises UK winter are not totally unrelenting. There are sculptures by local artists scattered throughout the gardens and this one is definitely my favourite.
Reluctant Traveller & Old Man Travel
Yes there are two ways to reach the same website content and this is because I could not decide which one best described the original intent of the website. In reality the content has morphed from my grumpy travellers tales and a mixed bag of mainly horrible stories from my past, to a Blog that retains its grumpiness but is no longer totally dark because I have an awful lot to be thankful for. Well despite being sixty three years old I continue to travel almost constantly and I hate it more and more, especially as it takes me away from my family and the home in Staines that I love. This website will therefore still catalogue my travel experiences but will also include far more of my time at home with a focus on bringing up a child, currently two and a half years old, whilst in my sixties. You may have guessed that this is not my first marriage and indeed not my first family and this along with some basic mathematics will indicate that my wife is considerable younger than me.
So why would I consider it even vaguely likely that anybody would want to read what I write? Well possibly they will not, but my life has definitely not been straightforward and I spent a lot of it travelling around the world behaving rather badly. I have had a number of unusual experiences and bit by bit I will add more details of a life that begins in a working class family living in Wales, abject failure in school, became a Radio Officer in the merchant navy, moved on to be an Electrical Engineer working all around the world, got married, had three children, got divorced, lived in Azerbaijan, repaired and built ships, met a wonderful lady, had a lovely little boy and continue to travel incessantly whilst looking after a fleet of ships and building a new vessel in Glasgow.
Has my wonderful wife and the chance to actually see my child growing up this time, totally changed me, eradicated the naughtiness that was so much part of my life, part of what I used to be. Well of course I believe one hundred percent that the combination of a lovely home life and the fact that my once boundless energy has at last diminished to a reasonable level means that I am totally contented and ready to give up my rather frantic work life and travel. Unfortunately I cannot do that because I need to support a bright, energetic and rather energetic little boy through through from nursery to University. Quite a challenge so I guess that I need to keep physically and mentally fit.
I hope you enjoy my attempt at a website and find something to amuse whether if is my day to day page called My Life My Travel or stories from my past such as Lisbon Kindness
